2026 and Beyond (not quite reaching infinity but giving it a good shot)
SECTIONS TO BE ADDED FROM SEPTEMBER 2026 BUT, MORE IMPORTANTLY, FROM JANUARY 2027 AND BEYOND
Forty one years after I started my first year-long round Great Britain journey, we want to do another similar one. This time
it will be solely within England but cover inland as well as the coast. In fact it will cover every county and area on our
English Counties page and we will expand on information already there.
I do accept that I am now older and so going away non-stop for a year might be a bit of a strain. I also think Molly's
mum and dad might set off in pursuit so they could see their little granddaughter more often than yearly. Therefore, this time it
will be a couple of weeks away and a couple of weeks back in most cases.
On my second journey, 1994-95, 50 primary schools followed me through a weekly 12-page newsletter with "real"
photos also falling out of the envelope they received each week. But this time, the world can follow
(well those with the internet anyway). We will be adding new videos
to our School of the Air section or English counties section every weekday just as we did in 2025.
For the last four months of 2026 we wanted to give our young followers some material
where they could get to know us and also have some fun while learning. In 2025 we ran our School of the Air for
almost the whole year. We have decided to re-broadcast some of that material from 14 September through till 23 December 2026.
On Mondays and Wednesdays Molly will read a little story about Pip the Pixie, written by Enid Blyton
many years ago and actually read to Molly by her mum when Molly was young. Each story has a nature theme to it and
at the end of the story Molly will have some follow-up ideas.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays our followers can have even more fun making something with Molly either in
her cabin in the woods or out somewhere in nature.
Finally on Friday Richard will introduce our followers to the journey we will be making next year by
having an initial look at the counties of England and what is already on the site for them to try and ways they
can be part of our journey.
But what will we be getting when you start your journey, I hear you ask? Well, although there is still sometime until January 2027, the current plan is as follows:-
NOTE Each area will be covered over two consecutive weeks
Monday - Week One.
This will be a simple introduction to the area we have been staying in with maps and a few facts and general info
and anything interesting we may have come across on our journey to get there. You will also have a look at our accommodation,
Tuesday - Week One.
This will continue our story-telling theme for our early years followers. At present we haven't decided on the stories,
but, like 2025, they will certainly encourage our young followers to get outside in to nature.
Wednesday - Week One.
This is our more academic day for our older followers. In each area we go to we will identify a topic that
could be in a geography curriculum and talk more about it. For example, and a bit obviously, we would cover lakes in Cumbria, forests in Nottinghamshire and the Jurassic coast in Dorset.
Thursday - Week One.
On this day in the first week Molly will be showing bush craft/survival skills. We may also look at ways we
can all care for, and look after, the environment.
Friday - Week One.
This is the day when we will be announcing our limerick-writing winners and recreating the "AS WAS.... AS IS" photo
that we're asking you to send us (see the YOUR TURN section). As well as that we will be tying things in with the parts that are already in the English Counties part of our website.
We will be looking again at the area's Royal connection and testing out and tasting some of the items that made up our "England on a Plate" series.
Monday - Week Two.
In every county of England and in each of our metropolitan boroughs you can always find,
if you look hard enough, something weird. The video we will upload on this day will show the places that we think are weird and
if any of our followers have written to us with something they think we should see we will try to meet them and visit their suggestion together.
Tuesday - Week Two.
Same as week one so this will continue our story-telling theme for our early years followers. At present we haven't decided on the stories,
but, like 2025, they will certainly encourage our young followers to get outside in to nature.
Wednesday - Week Two.
Wednesday in Week One looked at a geography topic we might come across as we travel. On the second
Wednesday we are going to look more at countries in our World, especially those closest to us and, following our "England on a Plate" series, take you on virtual culinary
journey through Europe and adding some of the countries which are part of the Commonwealth of Nations. We will not only try to cook a couple of dishes from each country but we will also
give you some interesting facts and information about the said country.
Thursday - Week Two.
We've called this one "Walking with Molly" because that is exactly what you will doing. No idea where, no idea what she'll
find, just hope she doesn't get lost.
Friday - Week Two.
The summing-up day. We'll talk about our time in the area and share with you any material which hasn't appeared elsewhere.
All the above are plans and all possibly changeable but not by much I would suggest. Basically, if you use our site and
follow us, you have learning material for the next 3 years at least. I look forward to celebrating my land anniversary
(the land anniversary is spookily 41 years) by going off again around the land of England. Despite medical advances another 41 years
would be in 2066 and I would be 117. If you're interested, and to put fear in your hearts, Jeanne Calment, the oldest living person
whose age was genuinely certified, lived to 122 years and 164 days. Lola would only be 42 for that land anniversary of this forthcoming trip.
I wonder if her 71 year old mother would go with her. Oh, I loved typing that.
